“You be careful up there!” his mother bellowed, father laughing as they stood watching their son swing from branch to branch like a monkey. It had been his idea. The farm was largely for growing trees to fell for timber, a whole variety of them which could be used for magical products (Graeme had said they should open an arboretum with it all and charge people to come in but his father had declined), but they also had an orchard. It seemed to go on forever and the fruits were starting to look rather impressive. Normally the boy liked to help his dad pick the apples and get them sorted for selling, but this year he was well aware there was a good chance he wouldn’t be able to, not if his letter came. “Oh for goodness sake, Grae come down now, let your father get it.” But the boy just laughed. He’d lost his frisbee at the top of one of the trees and was insisting on getting it down himself. “I’m nearly there Ma,” he called back, reaching for another branch and hoisting himself a little higher.

But just as he clasped his fingers around the frisbee, opening his mouth to shout down in triumph, the boy froze. His eyes followed the line of flight, mesmerised by the shape that was travelling through the air. It was leaving again. “Dad was that an owl?” he called down, tossing the frisbee and beginning to hurry down the tree once more. “Dad!” His foot slipped slightly in his haste, hearing his Mother shouting for him to be careful, but it was hard to slow down when he knew what this might mean. All summer he’d been waiting for the letter to arrive, desperate to hold it in his hands and know that he was being given the chance to learn more than most of the world would even know existed. How could anyone not get excited by that? Holding on to the last branch he lowered himself to the ground, heart still racing with excitement. He paused, looking at his Dad with his grin growing. “It was an owl,” the man said simply, beaming proudly at his son as he held out the letter that had been dropped down to them. For a moment their son simply stood there and looked between them. This was it. He was going to have to leave them but it was going to be so worth it. He took the letter from his Dad, feeling the parchment of the envelope between his fingers. This was a special moment. Silently he laughed as he thought what he would have to say when people asked him what was happening when he got his letter – he was climbing a tree to retrieve a frisbee. Awesome.

Just as he was about to open it he looked at his mother. “Don’t be upset Ma,” he said, walking over to her and slipping his arm around her waist. There was a pause as she reciprocated the gesture and pressed a kiss to his temple. “Just think how many trees there’ll be for me to climb at Hogwarts.” His parents laughed, his mother rolling her eyes as she hit him playfully on the shoulder before leading them back towards the house. If this wasn’t something to celebrate then what was?

Jamie jumped around the corner, her face falling when she realised her brother wasn't hiding there. They had been playing hide and seek for half an hour and Jean apparently had vanished off the face of the earth for his turn. "Jean, come on give me a clue." They should have created boundaries, the whole house and garden took too long to look around. She would look in five more places and then go and get a drink of juice. That seemed fair.

Four hiding place down and he was no where to be found. This was her last ditch effort and she already knew he wouldn't be in the wood storage. There were too many bugs in there. The small girl pushed the lid up and nothing. With a frown she stomped back to the house. All thoughts of where her brother were long forgotten when she spotted the envelope on the counter.

The brunette let out a short, sharp scream before grabbing in hungrily. She had known she was going to Hogwarts for a year when her parents decided they wouldn't be sending her to Beauxbatons but this made it all real. Jamie didn't even want to open it, she just kept staring at the green ink. Her name, that was her name. She was going to learn magic.

Today is Isaiah’s birthday!

His muggle parents asked him to prepare because they will visit an amusement park outside the country so that it will be a memorable birthday for him to remember. They wanted to give the best birthday surprise for him because turning eleven years old is the beginning of the life of being a wizard. Thus, it’s his destiny that cannot be stopped by anybody.

Before leaving their house, Frederico, his muggle father, received an envelope from the mailbox, including all the utility bills and a letter from a school named Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. Frederico was a bit surprised but he knew this day will come. So, he decided to hide it and save it later after their family outing for the celebration of Isaiah’s eleventh birthday.

When they left their house then flew to the other country, Isaiah is so excited, all smiles and his eyes were sparkling. His muggle parents were glad that he is so enthusiastic, his excitement has never been seen before.

Upon arrival in the foreign country, they spent all day long to the amusement park where they can ride-all-they-can. Isaiah with his muggle brothers, Fred and Rico, and his daughter, Athena were really enjoying the day. It was their family’s most thrilling and exciting outing for them this year.

Before to end the day, Frederico and his wife, Margaret approached Aiah (read as Aya), handing over the envelope. Frederico smiled and ask Aiah to open the envelope. Aiah’s curiosity, he hurriedly tore the envelope and read the letter inside.

Dear Mr. Thompson,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted from the school of witchcraft and wizardry

Isaiah could not believe what he just read. But, because of excitement, he hugged his muggle parents and whispered in their ears. “I’m gonna miss you so bad,” he said, his tears started to flow on his cheeks.

Staff Note:Please remember that Isaiah will have to be living in the UK already to be able to attend Hogwarts

Brynn had been laying in bed for a while now, not feeling any sort of need to get up and move. It was the summer after all. Those thoughts were banished by a gentle knock at the door and the equally soft voice of her dad. "Come on Pet; you need to get up now."

Huffing and throwing her covers back, she grumbled under her breath all the way to the door, trying to straighten the mess of hair she could feel on her head. "But why? We're not doing anything today and its summer. I just want to chill." she whined as she opened the door. She was greeted by a letter being held in front of her fathers face. A letter with her name on it. A letter with her name on it and a specific crest. A crest she'd seen on all her mother and aunts school supplies. Her Hogwarts letter.

Letting out an excitable squeal she reached for it only to have it be held out of her reach above her fathers head. "Nuh-uh sweetheart. Get dressed and come downstairs. Then you can open it." he said, using it to bop her on her head and swiftly left to go to the kitchen.

"That is so completely rude dad!" she called down after him, though turned quickly to her room to get ready and go get her Hogwarts letter.

Her day had just become more exciting than she had ever imagined it could be.

Adam screamed.

“Give it back, don’t be a jerk!” Four boys, plus a father that was always rushing to get to work and a mother making them all breakfast- without magic made for a chaotic table most mornings. The arrival of something magical, something important had been just the kind of match the table didn't need to set it alight. All four boys had jumped on it. Adam knew it was his. Zach had gotten one two years earlier. The fact it was important, different… it was all that was needed for the fight to start. Especially since they could all see Adam’s name written in fancy cursive. It made the win all the richer.

“BOYS! Hands to yourselves, Billy do you want an egg?”

“Come on lads, listen to your mother.”
His father’s voice barely reached Adam’s ears- and he’d grown two inches since summers start too. “Dougie! Don’t feed it to the dog I’M GOING TO PUT YOUR POWER RANGER IN THE RUBBISH IF YOU DON’T LET GO.”

“Mm-UM, Zach’s pinching!” The smallest of the lot, Dougie, screeched and Adam watched as he dropped the letter, holding instead to his breakfast plate and the dog so tight Adam wasn’t sure Rufus couldn't breathe and the plate was about to lose it’s contents too- which left “BILLY, YOU GIT!”

“LUCAS!” The room stopped. She had her mum voice on, and Adam knew if he wanted to go to football this weekend he needed not to cross Victoria Harmon. “It’s Saturday. You don’t work weekends, Zach stop pinching Dougie. Dougie put that sausage down, dog food is for dogs, human food is for you. And Billy so help me-” the threat hung in the air. Not even Adam was looking at the the paper anymore, “- if you don’t hand that letter back to your brother you’re all getting kale salad for lunch, for a WEEK.”

The letter was given to it's rightful owner. “Wicked,” said Adam. Soon ripping it open. “Hey, since Dougie got a dog, can I have an owl. I’ll even let Zach use it, sometimes. Letter says I can have one.”

The sun was baking harshly on all the British lawns, leaving the grass yellowing and dry. It was the hottest summer in years and had dispelled all the usual moaning about constant rain only to switch it out with complaints about the heat. In truth there wasn’t anything that could truly satisfy the British when it came to the weather.

On one of these lawns in a garden just outside Cambridge, Alix was hiding beneath the beech trees, hoping to get as much out of the light breeze as possible. It wasn’t very much wind, much to the girl’s disappointment, but a little went a long way in this heat. At first Alix been hard at work writing her woes in her diary. The content included lines on both the harsh weather and the lack of company, since all her friends had gone abroad for the summer. The heat had made it all too much and Alix had placed the diary over her face as she lounged on the grass, trying to gather her thoughts and ultimately made her slip into a light slumber.

This slumber was interrupted by the sound of wings and something large landing just beside her. Startled, the girl sat up and let out a small scream at the sight of the owl sitting just beside her. Alix had never seen an owl up close outside of a zoo before and the panic of seeing how large it was up close was enough to make her freeze in shock. The owl, apparently satisfied with seeing her awake, set off the ground and let the letter it had been carrying in its claws fall heavily on Alix.

That was how Alix obtained the letter, which would turn her world upside down. Forever.

The Hogwarts Acceptance Letter arrived on a particularly rainy day. The owl (the poor thing, Aradhya thought), was soaked and shivering that her governess was forced to let the avian hop inside the room. The letter clutched between its hooked talons. The envelope skids unceremoniously on the wooden floorboards, nearly going straight into the lit fireplace. It doesn't, of course, as Aradhya’s governess accio’d the letter into her hand.

The witch flashed the young girl a smile before handing the parchment. Aradhya stared at the sealed envelope, eyes wide and she glanced up the elder, “Sooo, I’m not really going to Ilvermorny, am I?” She asked, but it sounds less like a question but a wary statement. The witch shook her head and urged the girl to open the envelope. Arya does as asked.

The letter was addressed to her and she was pretty sure she didn’t submit any kind of school application. It must have been her parents and they failed to inform her about said application. It doesn’t matter now. “I have been accepted and I need to confirm…?” She muttered as her eyes travel to the rest of the letter. Her governess nodded.

“Your parents will take care of that, don’t worry. Would you like me to accompany you to London when you buy your things and get fitted for your robes?” The older witch asked and Arya’s brows only furrowed, “I can’t wear my usual clothes?”

The governess shook her head and smiled. Aradhya thought that this would really be a new (but strange) learning (in all sense of the word) experience for her.

Landen had barely finished the last of his toast before he headed to his room. He couldn’t wait to start on the newest book he had bought from the neighborhood bookstore. It was sure to be an adventure just like all the other books by the author. He took the book out of the shelf and was just about to open it when he heard a sharp rap from the window.

That’s odd. The branches shouldn’t be able to reach the window anymore. We just pruned it.

Another sharp rap followed.

Landen shifted his gaze towards the window and his eyes narrowed. There was an owl tapping the window in broad daylight. “Mummy, there’s an owl trying to get in through the window,” he shouted. He had no idea how to chase an owl that was this insistent away. None of his attempts to chase it away appeared to be working. Finally relenting, he decided to open the window only for the owl to hop in and lift up its left leg. There seemed to be something attached to it. He untied it only for the owl to immediately fly away. Curious about the whole affair, he slowly unfurled the parchment as his mother watched.

One thing that Wesley absolutely loved to do first thing in the morning was to go to his piano and start playing the first melody that came to him. When he first started doing this, he had worried that he was disturb his father, since he tended to do a lot of his work early in the morning, but Julian Campbell had assured him that he loved working when his son was playing, so he stopped thinking about it too much. And then came Henri, he had been around the house plenty of times during the years, so much that Wesley looked forward to spending time with Henri, but when he moved in, he worried that maybe he would have to stop playing in the morning. Unlike his father, Henri tended to work well into the night and woke up later than anyone in the house, but he also told the young boy that he didn’t mind. Which meant that his mornings were free to play as much as he wanted to and those moments were usually when he felt the most creative. It wasn’t about practicing, but about trying to create something of his own. Putting on his glasses, he sa on his piano with his little notebook and a quill and started to play.

Those moments were when he completely lost himself. It was just him and his music. He forgot the outside world and time didn’t exist, so when he heard his father calling his name, he had no doubt it wasn’t the first time he had been called and that he had also knocked on his door before coming in, it wasn’t the first time it happened. Blinking a couple of times, Wesley took off his glasses and ran a hand through his messy hair, while trying to go back to the world. “Sorry.” He told his father, but the wizard only grinned at him and handed him a mug of tea, a green tea blend that was a bought at a small shop not far from where they lived. “Get dressed and come for breakfast, something arrived for you in the mail.” There was something in the way his father was looking at him that made Wesley excited, it was the same look he gave him before giving him his new piano a couple of months ago. He took that as his cue to drink his tea and change out of his pajamas, not really bothering to run a brush through his hair. It was always a mess anyway, there was nothing to be done about that.

Getting to the small kitchen, he poured himself another cup of tea and grabbed the breakfast plate his father had left for him. “So what is it you had for me?” He asked curiously in between bites of his food, his father only passed him an envelope that he didn’t waste any time to open. His green eyes widened slightly when he saw what was inside and he turned to look at his father that was only smiling at him. He didn’t really know what he was supposed to feel. On one side he was sad to be leaving his home, on another, to properly learn magic is something every child that grows up in the wizarding world looks forward to and it was finally his time.

The owl for India came with the rest of the morning post that day in June, and stacked with the rest of the mail, it lay forgotten for several hours. When it first arrived, she had been more concerned about how much bacon she wanted with her breakfast than to check if any letters had arrived for her. She only ever received them from her cousin Bethany, anyway, and she wasn’t expecting one that day. All of the mail would be for her parents - bills, customer orders and the like. Boring grown-up things.

It wasn’t until the evening that anybody realised a letter had arrived for India. Her mother called her into the kitchen, looking unusually excited about something but sighing once she laid eyes on her daughter. ”I thought I told you to wash your face after dinner - never mind now! I’ve got something for you…” That was something intriguing enough that India had not been sent straight back upstairs to wash her face, and she bounced forwards to pick up the envelope that lay in front of her mother on the breakfast bar. “Is it from Hogwarts, Mummy? Do they send them out this early?” India was grinning, excited as soon as she saw the wax seal and began tearing through the envelope. “When can we go to London? Can I get specially trimmed robes? And a pet? I’ve already decided I want a puffskein, one of those little pink ones would be so cute!”

For a moment, her mother had pursed her lips at her daughter’s behaviour, but indulged her nevertheless by stroking her hair and smiling. ”We’ll pick a weekend in August, darling. We’ll get you everything you need, you just mind you behave like a proper young lady, yes?” India was too busy reading through her letter to really pay her mother much mind - but she was sure her mother would definitely be repeating those words a million times between this day and the first of September.

Madelyn was partaking in her daily activity of escaping up the ladder to her tree house with one of her father’s old herbology journals and a box of crackers. The day was cool, which was nice considering it was the middle of the summer and the sun was definitely out and about. She was pawing through to quiz herself on which plants were which, knowing that as she had just turned eleven, her letter ought to be coming her way soon. There was only a small chance, and a lingering doubt in her mind, that she wouldn’t get one. But she hadn’t dwelled on that much, knowing that both her parents, and even her step-mother, had magical blood and therefore she ought to.

She heard fluttering outside and turned her head in time to see a brown blur coming across the yard. There were two options of what it could be – either Rowan had chosen to be lazy and had sent their family owl, Riley, to let her know dinner was ready or her letter had finally arrived. She excitedly scooted out to the platform of the tree house entrance, flapping her arms in hopes of catching the owl’s attention in case it wasn’t Riley.

And as its attention was caught, she saw that the coloring differed from the family owl’s, she let out an excited squeal. It was here. Which meant that after years of yearning to go on adventures with her mother or step-mother, she would get to actually take her first one by herself.

“Fish for dinner again?” Nicolai groaned when his mother placed a plate on the table in front of him and the smell of fried fish reached his nostrils. Valentina shot a sharp look at her son and adjusted the baby that was resting on her hip, “Aren’t you a funny little one?” the woman replied impatiently, which made Niki get up and wrap his long arms around the woman and his little brother. The toddler giggled and Nicolai kissed the baby on the head. “I was only kidding, mum. I love fish, why wouldn’t I? I am proud to call myself a fisherman,” he added, sitting down.

“About that,” the woman said as she was manoeuvring around the small kitchen, “Have you applied to the new school yet? You could be so much more than a fisherman, you could be a doctor. Or a policeman,” there was a begging note in her tone. But Nicolai shook his head, “I am not going back to school, it’s not for me,” he said with his mouth full, waving the fork he was holding at his mother, who looked like she was close to giving up. “Why do you have to be like this, synok?” she cried, putting more chips on the boy’s plate.

They continued to bicker like that and probably none of them would have noticed a barn owl that had been sitting on the windowsill for quite some time if it wasn’t for the toddler who started pulling his mother’s hair. “What is it, eh?” the woman asked and turned around, gasping when she saw the bird. “Shoo!” she waved the apron at the owl, but the animal didn’t move.

Nicolai, quite surprised to see an owl instead of a seagull, got up and it was when he approached the window, that he noticed a letter attached to the bird’ leg. Ignoring Valentina’s protests, he opened the window and grabbed the letter, before quickly closing the window. The owl took off.

“It says my name on it,” he stated, quite stunned that someone would write him and in such neat calligraphy, too. He opened the letter, ripping the envelope away and when he was done reading, he laughed. “That is one of the funniest pranks ever. Do you think da is behind it? A wizard, me? Funny!” he put the letter on the table and went back to eating the fish, not believing a word the letter said.

It wasn’t until the next day, when the Ministry of Magic official visited the family, that they all believed.

Keeping as still as a statue was usually not a challenge for the eleven year old boy. From the moment he gained consciousness of the world, he was copying his father’s impeccably straight posture and polished movements. He glanced up from his soft boiled egg and glanced at his father who was hidden behind a copy of the Daily Prophet. The wizard reached out to grab his coffee cup and instinctively Larsen reached out for his milk, a complete mirror of his father’s movements. The boy appeared his normal self except for his uneasy gaze. His blue eyes kept darting between his parents and the entryway to the formal dining room.

Fidgeting was an unacceptable. He couldn’t fidget. A gentleman didn’t fidget. He unclasped his hands under the table and smoothened them out on his lap. No fidgeting. His jaw tensed and he nearly pursed his lips together in a thin line but thankfully he caught himself. Showing people his anxiety and nerves would not serve him any good. He glanced up again at the man hidden behind the newspaper. Albert Wagner taught him very early on that wearing his thoughts on his face would only make him weak. That was his father’s advice when kids at pre-school teased and taunted him for keeping to himself. Getting upset and crying in front of them would only egg them to continue teasing him. He remembered that lesson very well.

This was different. No one was teasing. No one was crying. Larsen Wagner was simply… anxious. He glanced at his mother who was taking her sweet time in examining all the mail they received that morning. Her perfectly manicured fingers turned and flipped each envelope and letter at her leisure. Larsen had half a mind to grab them from her and sort the mail himself but that would be rude. How much longer? He wondered. Waiting was too painful. Finally, the shuffling of paper stopped and his mother looked up at him with a smile. “You have a letter, my darling.”

Finally.

The owl was expected, but the tapping on her bedroom window gained no response from Aveline. She had been sat with her back turned to it, facing a large mirror her Papa had given her the day before as an early present. At first she ignored the sound, continuing to drag an intricately carved brush through her long brown hair. It was her birthday, after all, and a rather important one at that. While her papa had spoken rather fondly of Beauxbatons, the last few years Aveline’s focus had been Hogwarts. They had moved to England quite some time ago now to be closer to her maman’s family, and Aveline had long since given up hope that she would ever attend her father’s old school.

Instead, she had begged her maman for anecdotes from her days at Hogwarts, fascinated by the houses and ghosts and staircases that her maman swore could hold grudges and purposefully make you late to class. She listened to stories as her maman tied a bow into her hair, as they spent time carefully pruning her maman’s beloved flowers, and again as she fell asleep at night before dreaming of stars and wands and castles.

It was for all of those reasons that Aveline simply did not have the time to care about the noise, expecting that their house elf would either be up to take care of it soon, or would be revealed to be the cause of it. However, neither of those two things happened. There was no familiar pop! of a house elf entering the room, no “deeply sorry to have disturbed you, miss”, just more and more tapping, getting more insistent the longer she ignored it.

Aveline set her brush down with a huff, and pushed off of the stool to her vanity before turning towards her bedroom window. The pout she was preparing for being so rudely interrupted fell from her face almost instantly. Aveline rushed to the window to greet the owl that was sat there, feathers ruffled in irritation, and covered in a light dusting of snow. It was much more plain than their own owl, and could only mean one thing: her letter.

The small brunette lifted the window open, shivering at the cold wind currently trying to fight against her papa’s warming charms. The owl hopped onto her sill, and shook some of the snow from his feathers before sticking his leg out at her. Normally, Aveline might have rolled her eyes at the attitude that the animal gave her, but her excitement won out. She pulled the string from the owl’s leg, freeing the letter she had been impatiently awaiting all year. She didn’t register the owl hooting at her once before flying back out the still-open window, did not notice the snow gently falling through to soak her bedroom floor. The only thing Aveline could see at that moment were words written in green ink.

If there was one thing that Arcadia Rain Meyers wasn’t, it was nervous. Anxious, edgy, high strung, and jumpy? Well, those were words that totally described her right now. Okay, she knew they all meant the same thing, but at the same time she didn’t want to show that she was so fearful, especially today of all days. Today was the day she was expected to get her Hogwarts letter, now while she had been adopted, she did know that she showed signs of magic, but that didn’t always mean that you were a witch or wizard and her parents made very sure to explain that to her months ago. They had explained all about squibs to her and how sometimes things just get missed in generations(even though she was born pureblood and adopted...anyways), but that they would still love her no matter what. But those kind words didn’t stop the fear in her heart or the nagging feeling in her brain telling her that everything would change if she didn’t get the letter.

She tried to calm herself by taking a walk outside and looking around at the sky and all the different trees she could climb, but nothing seemed to make her feel any better. She just hoped that her big brother and sister would still love her if she never got a letter, if she was never able to be like them and go to Hogwarts to study magic. In that one thought, her day went from bad to even worse. She was pretty sure that there was nothing that could make her feel even a little bit better about it. Why did she have to do these things to herself? She could have went about her day thinking happy thoughts and just keeping her mind off of the letter, but she went down the rabbit hole and couldn’t pull herself out.

Just as she was about to give up, she heard her mum calling her name from the house. The young brunette jogged her way back home and accepted the hug the older woman offered, not even asking why. She was just going to take the love that she was given. It was then that she felt a kiss on her head and words being whispered to her, “You got some mail.” Her head lifted up as she turned to the table and saw an envelope. Rushing over, the girl held it in her hands before turning it over with a bright smile. Without even opening it she knew what it was, “I’m going to Hogwarts!”

”MAAAAATIE!”

The blonde’s eyes quickly shifted from the pages of her book, and were instead fixed on the gaps between the shrub bushes she sat under. An odd hiding spot, that much was true; but it was the only place Matilda Finch was yet to be found by the throngs of children living under the roof of number forty-two, Henley Grove. It was a humble home -- four-bedroom, semi-detached. It felt smaller on the inside though with all the clutter. Mattie was minimalistic, but then, she supposed it was hard to keep a house as such when there were seven children (and their various belongings) to account for. Her third of a bedroom was tidy at least.

A moment passed and Mattie held her breath all the while. She seemed to have evaded four-year-old Janey for the time being -- a false sense of security as the frizzy-haired girl suddenly pushed herself through the leaves and tumbled into Mattie’s lap. Completely startled, the older girl could groan only one complaint.“Janey! You’re--you’re going to ruin my book!” The kid rolled off, giggling, and reached for Mattie’s face with her sticky fingers. Visibly irritated, the eleven-year-old lightly swatted her away and crawled out of the hiding space. It wasn’t much of a hiding space any more though.

”Waaaaaa-aaait--” Janey too rolled out from underneath the bush and clambered back to her feet. Mattie continued towards the back door, weaving between the various toys and garden furniture carelessly littered all over the garden, and the little girl toddled on behind. She was oblivious to her foster sister’s obvious lack of interest. Until -- “you got a letter.

Mattie stopped in her tracks; hesitating mid-step, eyebrows furrowing. “A letter?”

Janey nodded. ”Fiona has it.

That was curious. Matilda glanced back towards the little girl, suspicious and intrigued. Who would have sent her a letter? Did people even send those anymore? But then her interest got the better of her and she was in the kitchen, loitering at the doorway while her foster mother dashed back and forth in preparation for lunch. “Janey said you had a letter for me?” Fiona, looking somewhat frazzled, glanced up from the stew she was watching over. Mattie’s nose wrinkled as the smell of the kitchen hit her.

(The older woman tried, which was of course the main thing, but she really was a dreadful cook.)

Fiona waved dismissively. ”Oh, yeah. Over there – windowsill.” And as the little blonde went over to grab it, she added: ”don’t get too excited. Looks like school is holding some kind of play or somethin’.” Mattie’s heart deflated a little, but she picked up the letter nevertheless and scanned its surface. Indeed it was addressed to her. Matilda Finch, their address following. She carefully pried open the seal and took out the thick paper from its envelope -- only for her heart to sink even further as her eyes swept the pages.

Mattie wasn’t sure what she’d expected, exactly. It was of course particularly silly to think it’d be some loving letter from her lost family; or even an invitation, perhaps, to escape.

And yet, she had hoped.

“It’s just a joke. The boys probably did it.”

Chandler straightened the sheets on his bed and looked out the window with a grin. The sun was out and shining and the grass was waving in the gentle breeze. “Chanlder, come downstairs please” Chandler took a deep breath and ran a hand through his wild curls.
“Coming mum!” he called then hurried down the stairs.

Young gentleman walk down the stairs Mr. Chandler Reese,” a severe voice reprimanded Chandler. Chandler bit back a groan as he recognized Grandmother Astra’s voice.

“Sorry Grandmama,” he said giving a respectful nod of his head to the ancient woman before turning to face the rest of the room. His mother stood beside his father, both smiling broadly. Chandler loved looking at his parents. They always looked so happy and perfect together. “You needed something?” Astra gave a disapproving sniff and mumbled something under her breath, but fell quiet when Chandler’s mother gave her a stern look. Jaxson picked his son up and hugged him before putting him back down.

Guess what my little lamb” Chandler rolled his eyes at his father’s pet name for him. No one knew where his curly hair came from, seeing as no one in the Erxleben-Kramer family had curly hair. “Your Hogwarts Letter arrived!” Chandler pumped a fist in the air, dodging to the side as his father made to tousle his hair. He couldn’t wait to attend Hogwarts! He loved hearing his father’s stories from his days at the Wizarding School.

Let’s hope he ends up in Slytherin like a proper wizard,” Astra sniffed.

Before thinking it through, Chandler opened his mouth and popped off. “I’m hoping for Ravenclaw personally. I think knowledge is more important than ambition,” His mother laid a hand on his shoulder in silent warning, before addressing her own mother.
Mother, there is nothing wrong with the other Houses

Gryffindor ruined your brother” Astra glared at her daughter.

“When are we going to Diagon Alley, Dad?” Chandler asked, trying to move the conversation along. He didn’t understand why his grandmother harbored such resentments against Gryffindor. Her own son-in-law had been in Gryffindor after all and he was one of the top Journalists for the Daily Prophet.

We will go this weekend” Jaxson stated, ignoring his mother-in-law. “That way your mother can go with us as well.

Chandler nodded eagerly, then a thought occurred to him. “Can I get a pet?” he looked from his father to his mother with pleading eyes. “You said I could get one once I turned eleven and I turned eleven two days ago.” He straightened his shoulders proudly. Jaxson let out a warm laugh and tousled Chandler’s hair. “Of course, we promised you didn’t we?

Eleven is much too young to have a pet if you ask me.” Astra said getting her things together.

Mother, Chandler is our son and he is very responsible for his age.” she smiled down at her curly-haired progeny. “Besides he could use a friend at Hogwarts

Astra sniffed disdainfully before leaving with her nose turned up in the air. Chandler waited for the sound of the door closing and once he heard the soft click he looked up at his parents. “I don't have to be in Slytherin do I?"

Today was a special day, but it started out like any other.

Magnolia Knight woke to the smell of coffee and biscuits, quiet chatter coming from the parlor room downstairs. Her youngest sister was next to her, having crawled next to her in bed in the middle of the night, citing nightmares of a man-eating hinkypunk. The soft patter of Poppy, their house-elf, could be heard in the hallway. And when she went into the loo to brush her teeth, her hair was green.

Wait -- that wasn’t right.

“MUUUUUUUUUUM!”

The screech was mostly unintelligible, but heard throughout the entire manor. Poppy’s footsteps quickly scattered away, her younger sister woke up with a fright scarier than the nightmare she’d had the previous evening, and the maniacal giggles of her brother could be heard down the hallway.

“MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!”

This time, Juniper responded swiftly. She appeared in the doorway, blonde hair tightly pulled into a bun, high-necked dress robes and all.

Merlin, Magnolia, we’ve got company. I won’t have you bellowing about the house like it’s a pub.” The stern look she gave Magnolia was enough to keep the rising tears at bay. The matriarch of the Knight household hardly blinked an eye at the green streaked through Magnolia’s dark blonde hair.

“Mum, do you see what Giddy’s done to my hair, and on my birthday, no less! I’m going to bloody behead that git when I get my hands on --”

Magnolia, hush.” This time, her tone matched her look. Magnolia’s lip quivered -- they had an entire evening planned, dedicated to her finally turning eleven, how was she supposed to show up with hair greener than gillyweed? It would certainly clash with her dress. “This is no time for your hysterics. I’ll give you a potion from the shop, it should wash out in a couple of days.

“A couple of days? But what about the party?” They had been planning it for months. It was supposed to be her big night, one she’d been looking forward to for weeks. Juniper had even agreed to let her assist with the organizing. It was going to be the event of the year -- at least, for the Knights.

We’ll say you’ve gotten ill. It’ll mostly be your father’s and my friends, anyhow. They won’t miss you.

“But… but, it’s my party!” The tears welling in her hazel eyes started to spill over. “Giddy is just doing this because he’s jealous that I get to go to school this year and he doesn’t!”

Magnolia. I will not discuss this any further.” Juniper barely flinched as the tears began to roll steadily down Magnolia’s cheeks. “Maybe this will get you to stop your incessant blubbering.” Her tone told Magnolia that her decision was final. The newly eleven year-old couldn’t help but wonder why Juniper couldn’t simply fix her hair with a charm, but she knew better than to protest any further. She reached out to accept the envelope Juniper proffered, sealed with a scarlet emblem. Her letter to Hogwarts. “Now, I don’t want to hear another word about this. Do you understand?

Juniper turned on her heel before waiting for an answer, but Magnolia hardly noticed. She had ripped open the letter, containing her squeal of delight. It was finally here. She might not get to go to her own birthday party, but she did get to go to Hogwarts.

Being forced to go to school on your birthday ought to be illegal, Olivia thought as she rummaged through the bin of shoes in the entryway. As if to make matters worse than they already were, it was drizzling. Not enough for it to be a proper rain, but enough that she would need to wear the proper footwear. And so far, her search for her rainboots was coming up empty.

“Mum!” she shouted, “Where are my boots?”

Why would I know that?” came the response from the kitchen.

Olivia muttered a less than polite response. Before she could think of where to look next, there was a knock on the door. She straightened up and opened it. A man in a suit that looked a couple decades out of fashion stood on the front step. “Yeah?” she asked, eyeing him. He had a briefcase with him. She wondered if he was going to try to sell them something. If so, he had come to the wrong house.

You must be Olivia,” the man said.

Olivia frowned. “Sure. Yeah. That’s me.” She had never seen the man before in her life, so she had no clue why he knew her name.

I’m from the Ministry, and I’m here to talk to you and your mother about your education next year,” he said.

“I’m going to St. Brigit’s.” It wasn’t a great school, but Olivia didn’t really want to go to a great school.

Actually,” the man said withdrawing a letter from his pocket, “I believe, or at least we hope, that you will attend Hogwarts next year.

“Never heard of it.”

That’s what we were expecting. May I come inside to talk to you and your mother. It’s quite damp out here.

Olivia stepped aside in response. She’d be late for school, but she didn’t exactly care about punctuality, and she had a feeling that whatever the strange man was about to say would be worth the while.
