RPG and Forum - Frequently Used Terms
Avatar: - The image that appears on the left side of your post, below your name.
AW: - "Adult World"; this is how we refer to the portions of PottersWorld that are viewable to adult characters only. Adult only forums are all rated 15+.
Caster: The person casting a spell or giving a potion.
Character: - The person that you are pretending to be in an RPG.
GM: - Game Master - The player that runs the storyline and determines the outcome of players' actions.
IC: In Character - A player may wish to make an in-character comment by using this abbreviation. You stay "in character" when replying.
OOC: Out Of Character - A player may wish to make an out of character comment by using this abbreviation. You reply as yourself, the person behind the computer screen.
Player/Handler/Puppet Master: - A person playing in an RPG; you -- the person at the keyboard.
PM: Personal Messages (PMs) are the users way of communicating privately over the forums. From time to time, staff members might send you a notice via the PM system. It can be found in the upper right hand corner of your screen on the forums (click on "New Messages").
RP: Role Play - The act of playing a character other than yourself. Pretend.
RPG: Role Playing Game - A game in which you play the part of a character - usually with a pre-set storyline.
Signature: A signature is the block containing a graphic and/or text that appears beneath your posts on the forums. Often, this will be a visualization of what your "character" looks like.
Spamming Spamming can be described as posting nonessential, off-topic, one-word or even empty posts, and multiple topics that already exist or are similar in nature to already existing topics. Spamming of the PM system is considered sending out chain letters or things of that nature.
Stock Character: - Like a Non Player Character (NPC)- The characters/things/objects/animals, etc. used to populate Potters World.
