Date Gone:
Expected Return: (when you expect to be back)
Some rules:
1. Use if gone for more than 4 days. Create a post here if you, and therefore your character(s), will be gone for longer than 4 days.
2. Character Name. Use your character name that you will be posting with. If you have multiple characters, you can do one of the following:
-- list all of your alters in this one post (this will, of course, let others know who your alters are), or....
-- create a separate post for each character using that character's account (this may keep your alter hidden)
3. Reason for Absence. You don't need to list your reason for being gone, though you are free to do so if you wish.
4. Dates. For "Date Gone" tell when you expect to be leaving, and for "Date Return", please tell when you will be back. Dates do not need to be specific; if you aren't sure of a return date, please try to give a generality (example: "return at the end of October"). Please make some attempt to tell us when you will return. Accounts that say "unknown when I will return" may be subject to deletion if two months have passed since the last log-in date.
5. Extended leave: For anyone who will be gone for more than two months, you MUST PM a Governor! This cannot be emphasized enough! Posting in this Absent Thread does NOT guarantee that your account will not be deleted if you are gone for a period longer than two months!
Should you need to be gone for two months or longer, you should PM a Govenor and they will place your account on "Inactive" status, meaning the account will be placed in a special user group that protects it from deletion. While in Inactive, you will be unable to post and see into many forums, but you WILL be able to use the PM system to let a Governor know when you have returned, at which point your account will be restored.
NOTE: New Addition Effective Immediately!!
QUOTE
As our list of Inactive members grows, the staff of PW need to find a way to both accommodate those people needing the Inactive status for genuine reasons, and make sure someone hasn't just abandoned an account for good. We cannot leave those Inactive accounts there indefinitely -- they may hold valued Adult World employment positions, or be using a character face that someone else wants.
Therefore, the following boundaries have been put in place for Inactive Accounts.
1. Inactive Status Limits -- An Inactive account will only be allowed to remain Inactive for a period of 6 months from the first date of Inactive status. After that period has expired, the account will be deleted with 48 hours notice.
This means that if an Inactive account is inactive for 6 months, an email will be sent to the email account on record, warning the member that they have 48 hours to respond or the account will be deleted. The account MUST be moved to Active status and used for at least one term (minimum of 10 posts for a Student account, 3 posts for an Adult account) for the account to be saved. An email that simply states "I'm coming back someday" will no longer be accepted.
2. Job Holding Limits -- (For Adult World characters only) Characters who are on Inactive status for more than 3 months will LOSE their AW jobs/titles. This means that if an account is left Inactive for 3 months or more, the character's job or Order/Cadena/Quidditch position will be removed, and they will be moved to the Adult Witch/Wizard user group.
This is done so that incoming adult characters will have a chance at desired positions where they can be used actively.

6. Return. When your character(s) return, please post in the 'I've Returned' Thread so that we can cross your name off the Absence list.

Remember!!
Use of the Absent Thread and Inactive status should never be used in a way to get yourself out of your "work" threads. In order for PW to be a well-rounded world (and not just a bunch of angsty, romantic threads), members need to post with their characters in a variety of threads, from work, class, social, and dramatic. It would look rather suspicious and certainly bad if you post in the Absent Thread the following -- "may occasionally check in" -- and you continue to do your social threads while ignoring your other duty threads. The staff are not daft and can see right through this type of ploy.

And a final word:
*sighs* PLEASE remember this is the ABSENCE thread (emphasis on "absence"). Don't post here if you are just going to be 'slow', or if you are going to 'post occasionally'. When the staff goes through to check this list occasionally, we will check the absence dates against the last time the member logged on. If they have logged on after they posted, their absence post WILL be deleted to keep things nice and tidy.
So please, only use this if you are truly going to be absent. If you feel you need a slow-down time but will keep logging on, do not post here!
